Abstract

The book is dedicated to life and work of Pavel Melnikov, a prominent transport engineer, a talented scientist who laid foundations of railway science, a statesman and a patriot of his country. In the author's interpretation of biographical material emphasis is put on high professional and civic qualities of the character, his integrity and selfless service to the cause. The story is accompanied by portrait sketches of significant persons of that time and an indication of used extensive source and reference apparatus.
